The e-Government Day was held with the theme of 'Connected with Citizens via Digital Platform Government'

제5회 전자정부의 날 개최, 전자정부의 발전과 성과를 기념하는 자리, 다양한 분야의 전문가와 관계자들이 모여 전자정부의 미래 방향 논의, 혁신적인 기술과 서비스 소개, 시민의 삶을 개선하는 전자정부의 역할 강조, 지속적인 발전과 협력의 필요성 인식, 전자정부의 중요성 재확인, 앞으로의 비전 제시, 모두의 참여와 관심 요청.




The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (Minister Lee Sang-min) announced that the 5th e-Government Day event was held on June 23, Thursday at the Sejong Convention Center with the theme of ‘Connected with Citizens via Digital Platform Government’.

In 2017, the government designated June 24 as e-Government Day to accelerate e-Government’s progress by promoting to the public the excellence and convenience of e-Government and raising its international status. The e-Government Day event has been held every year since 2018.


※ June 24 commemorates June 24, 1967, the operation date of the computer (IBM1401) first deployed by the Korean government to process demographic statistics.


This event has been arranged to publicize and share the new government’s vision of the ‘Digital Platform Government’ with citizens.

The first part of the event included commemorative and proclamation ceremonies while the second half consisted of panel discussions of digital government experts from industry, university, and research fields.


First, during the first segment of the event, ‘The World Best Digital Platform Government’ vision was proclaimed by 200 civil servants, industry employees, and citizens, namely people who have been involved in creating the e-Government.

Also, awards were presented to those who contributed to the e-Government development and the winners of the Digital Government service idea competition.


Interior Minister Lee Sang-min expressed his will through his commemorative speech that Korea now needs to take a step forward from electric government and digital government to a ‘Digital Platform Government’ based on public-private cooperation, utilizing new technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data.

Go Jin, head of the Digital Platform Government Committee Launch Preparatory Group suggested five initiatives for realizing the Digital Platform Government:

1. Introduction of the public awareness projects;

2. Proactive public service;

3. Scientific government operation based on Artificial Intelligence and data;

4. Creation of a world-leading digital platform government innovation ecosystem;

5. Assurance of a safe and trustworthy user environment.


Also, During the ceremony, Jung Sun-yong, Director General of MOIS was awarded a Red Stripe Order of Service Merit, and Lim Gyu-gun, Professor of Hanyang University received a Service Merit Medal.

Presidential Award went to ‘Chung Chun Do Yak (Leap of Youth)’ team composed of Kim Hyun-jin, Yang Ji-hyun, Yang Hye-rin, and Lee Na-young who won the grand prize in the “Digital Government Service with My Hands” idea contest held from April to May while the excellence award ‘5678’ Team of Park Davida, Jung Ah-in, Lim Sera, Jeon Chan-young won the Prime Minister’s Award.


The second part of the event included a discussion session. The industry, academia, and research sectors’ digital experts presented and discussed under the theme of “Ways of Public-Private Cooperation for the Success of the Digital Platform Government.”
